Abstract
Rui Zhou has developed a system, which could be used to determine the location of a static device in a WLAN and a Bluetooth environment inside a building. However, in reality the mobile devices are not fi xed to a location, and they move from time to time. In this scholarship project, Rui Zhou has developed a wireless indoor tracking system, which can be used to track and locate both moving devices and static devices inside a building. The system is purely software based, which means an advantage for existing WLANs. No additional hardware and costs are required. Using complex mathematic algorithms, the system determines the locations of the mobile devices according to the signals received from visible access points in the building. One aim of the project was to examine if the system can achieve a proper accuracy and precision that allows to develop location based applications based on the tracking system in universities, shopping centres, museums, and so on, which would be a great help to visitors.
